Essential oils what does neat mean

Jacqueline…You certainly got me thinking with your post. We usually dilute our oils since in a few treatments we use two oils and not just one.

However, I have used a couple neat and had good results. Yet I will definitely look more into this and be mindful of what I find. I agree, we need to be educated and definitely paying attention to how EOs affects our families when being applied in any way.

Thank you for the heads up my friend. You are welcome, Naomi! We rely heavily on essential oils and other natural remedies. The majority of the time, I dilute my oils. But there are occasions when using an oil un-diluted has been more effective. Bizarre, I know. They are non-fatty, thus, they flash off quickly. When using them with a carrier oil, more absorbs into the skin.

Diluting is a good thing for many reasons. It makes me kinda sad because I think our company is pretty awesome but sometimes we get a bad rap.

Thank you for your comment, Stephanie. The point about flashing off quickly is an important concept.

Our neat blends are perfect for diffusion and deep inhalation. Diffusion is such a great way to receive the benefits that essential oils have to offer.

It is so easy, too! We would suggest following the instructions for your specific diffuser, but here are some general guidelines for diffusing:. Fill the diffuser with water to the recommended line. Put drops more or less as needed into the diffuser, and then turn it on. Always practice safe diffusion, though! Practicing safe diffusing: — Diffuse in an open, well-ventilated area. When you use any essential oils topically, and on a regular or daily basis, you should always dilute!

You do this by simply adding your neat essential oil or blend to a carrier oil, and rubbing them into the skin. This method serves two main purposes: to protect the skin from the potency of the oils and to spread the essential oil over a larger surface area. This enhances the absorption of the oils into the bloodstream. Dilution rates depend on your personal sensitivity, the type of oil you are using, and the age of the person using the essential oil.

We do provide a great dilution chart on the website that we always suggest to follow, but there is a general guideline that most adults can stick to. This is simply combining drops of essential oil to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil and applying it to the skin. Patch Test: Before applying any oil topically, we recommend conducting a patch test.

To do so, simply apply one drop of your choice of essential oil to a small area of skin. If any irritation arises, this may indicate a possible sensitivity to the essential oil being used. In this case, you will want to add carrier oil on top of that area to calm down any irritation. There is a time and a place to use them topically, under the supervision of an aromatherapist. Aromatherapy and essential oils are a wonderful part of holistic medicine. I am not trying to scare anyone out of their use. Just remember that essential oils are extremely concentrated liquids and less is always more. Treat essential oils with the same respect and diligence as traditional medicines you might use.

Treat your oils with respect, and they will treat you well in return! Be careful of NEAT essential oils application. It may lead to itchy, irritated skin. Because essential oils are so concentrated, they can severely irritate your skin if used neat and can cause rashes, itching, or even tears. Skin irritation is a short-term issue and can be treated by massaging any carrier oil into the irritated area.

I know, sounds weird, but I have seen this work beautifully once with a lemon skin irritation. If you end up with unhappy skin, possible tears, or severe sensitivity with an inability to ever use that precious healing oil again, you have definitely overdone the neat application of essential oils.

Additionally, just FYI, it is never wise to apply essential oils to your eyes or private areas. In addition to short term skin irritation, you may also put yourself at risk for permanent skin sensitization from using essential oils neat.
