In this section I compare the jackets by feature, so you can see where they differ, and then give a winner for that feature at the bottom. The Venture uses the 2. On the outside, they have a DWR durable water repellant finish that helps make the water bead and roll off. The main difference between these two jackets in terms of comfort is the lining. The Venture has a dry touch print that is designed to raise the fabric from the skin allowing moisture to wick away through the breathable layer faster.
The benefit is that this is a lighter jacket less material but some people may find it not as comfortable as it is directly against the skin. The Resolve has an extra breathable mesh inner layer to separate the jacket outer layer from your skin. The Venture has pit-zips incorporated under the arms. This is a top-of-the-line rain jacket feature that allows you to open a zipper under your arms to increase airflow when the going gets hot. Thunderstorms in the forecast?
The Omni-Tech two-layer nylon shell is fully seam sealed, so not only does it keep moisture out, but its air-permeable design allows unwanted perspiration to escape.
The Minimalist Jacket is one of Marmot's most popular and universal jackets. Weighing in at under one pound with Paclite technology, this jacket is designed for storing in your day pack, backpacking pack, and carry-on so that you are always prepared for high-elevation rain clouds, scattered showers at the crag, and all-day thunderstorms in the city. This Jacket is a dependable rain shell that you can pack in its own pocket for compact storage while backpacking, day-hiking, or simply making it through a wet day.
Unlike most ultralight, hyper-packable rain shells, the Torrentshell offers rugged waterproofing in the form of Patagonia's Performance Standard H2No membrane—the very same membrane used in Patagonia ski jackets. Exceptionally versatile, hardwearing and warm, the Thorium AR Hoody performs as a cold weather midlayer and as a standalone.
Lofty fill European grey goose down give incredible warmth for little weight, is durably resilient, and packs easily. The two main factors to consider while making your decision in rain jackets are comfort versus functionality. It is just a little cozier feeling, thanks to the fleece collar. The elastic cuffs and stowable hood add a nice finishing touch to this model. Overall the Resolve 2 is an excellent all-around durable rain jacket that is great for hiking and more laidback outdoor activities.
The difference between the Resolve 2 and Venture 2 is the layering. The Resolve 2 has a 2-layer model to keep you dry externally but is not as breathable.
The Venture 2 has a 2. The differences in features have been outlined above, so the choice should be may be easier for you. We would also like to mention that these jackets are not the most optimal for avid runners.
If you are looking for a breathable jacket to use while out on a run, we would recommend The North Face Cipher hybrid. Please leave your comment below and let us know what you think.
The North Face Resolve. The North Face Venture 2. Price not available. Durable Water-Repellent. Stow-away hood Elastic Cuffs Secure-zip hand pockets. DryVent fabrics are designed to be windproof, waterproof, and breathable. Where they differ is the amount of layering incorporated into the jackets. The outer layer of both jacket are coated with a DWR finish that forces that water to form droplets while repelling them at the same time.
These fabrics are engineered to allow a high level of protection with a balance of comfort and performance. Waterproof ratings are generally determined by the manufacturer or the clothing producer and then tested either in-house or by a third party testing company.
North Face uses a waterproof rating in PSI, or pounds per square inch. Keep in mind, that different labs may report the same test with different results, so take them with a grain of salt. The face fabric is there to give you protection and is treated with DWR, which helps repel water and keep it from soaking into the material. The membrane has tiny holes to let water vapor sweat escape and is protected with an ultra-thin layer of Polyurethane or oleophobic oil-hating treatment.
Modern fabrics have made leaps and bounds of progress when compared to the first iterations of rain gear. A rain jacket is meant to be used in the rain duh and a short back length translates into a wet behind. Ideally, you want it to extend down further than a standard jacket to at least the hips and both of these jackets offer decent coverage. Being able to store a jacket in a backpack is a great option, however, having the ability to pack it into itself, or a pocket is way easier.
